ධම්මපදය

සූතු පිටකයේ බුද්දක නිකායට අයත් දම්මපදය ‍ ‍බෞද්ධයාගේ අත්පොත බදුය. මෙහි තේමා 26 ක් යටතේ ගාතා 423ඇත. මෙය බුදුදහමෙහි හරය හෙවත් ක්ෂාරය ලෙස හදුන්වයි . කෙනෙක් කොතෙක් දහම් දැනුම කොතෙක් දැනගෙන සිටියත් තම ජීවිතය අයහපතින් මුදවා යහපතෙහි යෙදවීමට එම දහම් දැනුම යොදා‍‍ගන්නනෙ නැති නම් නම් නිෂ්ඵලය. බුදුරදුන් විසින් දේශනා කරන ලද දහමෙහි සාරා0ශයක් වැනි වූ ධම්මපදයෙහි සරල සුමග දහම් දැනුම මෙන්ම ගැඹුරැ දහමි කාරනාද ඇතුලත්ව ඇත. එහි ඇති ගාතා අප යායුතු මග නොයායුතු මග පෙන්වා දෙයි. අපගේ සිතේ ස්වභාවය එය ජීවිතය කෙරෙහි බලපාන ස්වභාවය හා සිත හික්මවා ගන්නා ආකාරය එහි වැදගත් කම පැහැදිලි කර දෙයි. මෙහි බුදුධ වග්ගයෙහි සදහන් වන පස්වන ගාතාව සහ එහි තේරැම පහත සදහන් වෙයි.

Cleopratra the empress of Egypt is considered one of the most beautiful Women Who ever lived. She was not only beautiful, she was intelligent too. The former rulers of Rome, Caesar and Mark Antony were in love with her.

The people in Rome were curious about Cleopratra. They wanted to0 know why their beloved rulers fell in love with this foreign woman.

Enorbabus, who had seen cleopratra sailing in her barge on the Nile discribed her. The poetry of Enorbabus makes cleopratra even more beautiful in the minds of people.

T.B.jaya T.B.jaya was bron in Galagedara on 1st January 1890.After his primary education, his family moved to Colombo and he was admitted to st. Thomas collage, Mt. Lavinia for his secondary Education he became a teacher . While being a teacher, he passed the London B.A. Examination . T.B. jaya began his teaching career at Dharmaraja collage, kandy. Next he taught at prince of Wales collage, Moratuwa and Later at Ananda collage , Colombo. He was one of the founder member of Zahira collage, Colombo. As aresult of the requests of muslim leasers he assumeddutis as the principal of Zahira collage ,Colombo. There were only six teachers at the time . Tough his devotion , dedication and selfless service, he was able to bring up Zahira collage ,to the level of other leading schools in the country . Many philanthropists helped him with the funds necessary , to develop the school in every aspect . During the second world war, T.B.jaya established branches of Zahira collage in Gampaha , Matale, aluthgama and Puttlam. After the war these schools developed on their own and became independent schools . Through his vision and efforts he served his community by Opening new avenues for education . In 1924 T.B.jaya was appointed to the Legislative council to represent the minority communities. He worked in unison with the members who represented other communities. From 1936 to 1957 , he served in the state council . When Sri Lanka was given Dominion status he represented the Colombo Central Electorate . He was appointed the Minister of Labour and Social service . He joined hands with other leaders in the struggle for Independence . In 1950 , he was appointed as the high Commissioner for Sri lanka in Pakistan . He died in 1960 , falling ill on a pilgrimage to macca , the holiest place for all Muslims . He is remembered by every Sri Lankan , specially for his contribution towards the struggle for independence and his service to education.

දුර අතීතයේ පටන් ලංකාව මැණික් පිළිබදව ප්‍රසිද්ධියක් උසුලයි.මහාවංශයේ සදහන් පරිදි රාජ්‍ය වර්ෂ පුර්ව දී බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ ලංකාවට වැඩම කළේ චුලෝදර මහෝදර නම් වු නාග ග්‍රෝත්‍රික සොහොයුරන් දෙදෙනෙකු අතර මැණික් එබ්බ වු සිංහාසනයක් අරභයා හටගත් ආරවුලක් විසදීමටයි .පසු කාලයේදී මෙරට සංචාරය කළ ප්‍රසද්ධ පුද්ගලයින්ගේ චාරිකා වාර්තා වල ලංකාවේදී ඔවුන් දුටු අගනා රතු නිල් පසිංගල් සහ මුතු කැය ගැන සදහන් වේ අරාබි නිසොල්ලාසයේ “සින්බෑඩ්” නැමැති නාවිකයාගේ චාරිකා වෘතාන්ත වල මැණික් බහුලව ලැබෙන ප්‍රදේශයක් වශයෙන් දැක්වෙන”සෙරන්ඩිබ්”දිවයින ලංකාව බව විද්වත් මතයයි.මේ සියලු ම මැණික් රත්නපුරය කේන්ද්‍ර කොට සබරගමු පළාතෙන් පිට මැණික් ගැරිම් කෙරුණේ ඉතා සුළුවෙනි.රත්නපුර කෙන්ද්‍ර කොට ගත් සබරගමු පළාත මැණික් පිළිබද ව මේ තරම් ප්‍රසිද්ධ වීමට හේතුව සොයා බැලීම වටී.ලංකාවේ භුමියෙන් 90%ක් පමණ ප්‍රාග් කේම්බ්‍රියන යුගයට අයත් පාෂාණ වලින් යුක්ත වන අතර එය ප්‍රධාන කොටස් තුනකට වෙන් කර හදුනා ගැනේ .ඒවා නම් වන්නි සන්කිර්ණය ,හයිලන්ඩ් /නිරිතදිග සංකීර්ණය සය විජයන් සංකීර්ණයයි.හයිලන්ඩ් නිරිත දිග සංකිර්ණමේවායින් ප්‍රධාන තැන ගන්නා අගර එයට මධ්‍යම කදුකරය අයත් වේ .මෙම සංකිර්ණයේ පාෂාණ බිහි වී ඇත්තේ කලින් එහි නිම්නයක තිබු අවසාදිත පාෂාණ අධික පීඩනයටත් උෂ්ණත්වයටත් භාජනයවීම නිසා විපරිත පාෂාණ බවට පත්වීමෙනි.එකී අධික පීඩනය නිසාම නිම්නය කදුවැටි බවට පත් වී ඇති අතර අධික පීඩනයත් උෂ්ණත්‍වයත් නිසා මැණික් ඛනිජ බිහි වී ඇත.එම නිසාය මුලික මැණික් නිධි මෙම සංකීර්යේ වඩාත් ම ප්‍රචලිත ව ඇත්තේ .ලංකාවේ ගංගා වලින් වැඩි ගණනක් මධ්‍යම කදුකරයේන් ආරම්භවන අතර කදුකරයට පතිත වන අධික වර්ෂාව මෙම ගංගා මගින් පහත බිම්වලට ගලා යාම නිසා ගංගා නිම්න ඇති විය.මුලින් කී ප්‍රාග්කේම්බ්‍රියන පාෂණ ස්වාභාවික ගංගා නිම්න 103කින් යට වීඇත. මෙම ගංගා වලින් වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් බටහිර දකුණු සහ ගිණිකොණ දිසා වලට ගලා බසින බැවින් විඛාදනය වු පාෂාණවලින් ගිලිහුණු මැණික් මෙම නිම්නවල තැන්පත් වී ඇත . එම නිසාත් කළු කැළණි වළවේයන ගංගා ආශ්‍රිත නිම්න වල වැඩියෙන් මැනික් ඇත.මහවැලි ගග ආශ්‍රිත නිම්න වලද මැණික් නැතුවා නොවේ.එනම් මාතලේ ඇලහැර සහ බකමුණ ආදී ප්‍රදේශ මෙසේ මහවැලි ගගෙන් පෝෂිත නිම්නයන්ය.

Sri Ponnambalam Arunachalamwas bron on 14th september 1853He got his secondry sducation at colombo Academy. He was a bright stidents there. He won a schooaroship to cambridge university. He was womted to be a lawyer. He joined the civil sevricies the frist sri lankan cilvili servant and had. administrative and judicial power. he was magistrote, distric judge these are prestigous position Registar Genaral. and only whites held this post before for eminent service He did made a knight. and he wrote critical articles to ‘ceylon observer’ as hHe was no longer a government servent He was free to expresshis views. there were riots in 1915 and sinhala leaders were harased. He petitioned to colonial secretary. anainst arrests, killings and imprisoning . He was a man of high integrity, honestry. Hewas afounder member and president Lanka National congress He was safe guarded Railway and port workers. He got initiated adult education and night schools for adults.and he wanted the mother tongre to be the state language. He worked inte freedom struggle . He died on 9th january 1924

It is revered as a holy site by Buddhists, Hindus, and to a lesser extent by Jews, Muslims and Christians. It has specific qualities that cause it to stand out and be noticed; including its dominant and outstanding profile, and the boulder at the peak that contains an indentation resembling a footprint. As the 1910, Encyclopædia Britannica notes^[1]

For a long period Adam’s Peak was supposed to be the highest mountain in Ceylon, but actual survey makes it only 7353 ft. above sea-level. This elevation is chiefly remarkable as the resort of pilgrims from all parts of the East. The hollow in the lofty rock that crowns the summit is said by the Brahmans to be the footstep of Siva, by the Buddhists of Buddha, by the Muslims of Adam, whilst the Portuguese Christians were divided between the conflicting claims of St Thomas and the eunuch of Candace, queen of Ethiopia. The footstep is covered by a handsome roof, and is guarded by the priests of a rich monastery half-way up the mountain, who maintain a shrine on the summit of the peak.

It is an important pilgrimage site, especially for Hindus and Buddhists. Pilgrims walk up the mountain, following a variety of routes up thousands of steps. The journey takes several hours at least. The peak pilgrimage season is in April, and the goal is to be on top of the mountain at sunrise, when the distinctive shape of the mountain casts a triangular shadow on the surrounding plain and can be seen to move quickly downward as the sun rises.

Climbing at night can be a remarkable experience, with the lights of the path leading up and into the stars overhead. There are rest stops along the way.

ධාතු ඉතිහාසය

ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය බෞද්ධ ජනයාගේ පමණක් නොව සමස්ත ලෝකවාසී ජනතාවගේම අසහාය පූජනීය වස්තුව වනාහී සෙංකඩ පුරවරයේ වැඩ වසන සිරි දළඳ වහන්සේය. “දළඳා හාමුදුරුවෝ”

යන භාවාත්මක ගෞරවාදර වදනින් වහරණ දන්ත දතූන් වහන්සේ රාජ්‍යත‍වයේ සංකේතය වශයෙන් එදා සිට පවත්නේය.බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ අසූ වියේ දී මල්ල රජදරුවන්ගේ උපවත්තන නම් සල් උයනේ දී පිරිනිවන් පා වඳාළ සේක. උන්වහන්සේගේ ශ්‍රී දේහය ආදාහනයෙන් පසු ඉතිරි වූ ශාරීරික කොටස් ධාතූන් වහන්සේලා නම් වෙති. මෙහිලා දළ යනු දත්ය. දා යනු ධාතුයැ. එබැවින් දළඳා වහන්සේ නම් බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ දන්තයෝය. පාලි භාෂාවෙන් දන්ත ධාතු වන අතර එහි සංස්කෘත වචනය දංෂ්ට්‍රා ධාතුයැ.

ධාතූන් වහන්සේලාගේ පැරණිම මූලාශ්රය ත්රිපිටක පාලියට අයත් දිඝ නිකායේ මහාවග්ගයේ මහා පිරිනිබ්බාන සූත්රයෙහි අන්තර්ගත වන්නේයැ. ඒ පිළිබඳ සංකෂිප්තව පහත සදහන්ය.

මල්ල රජදරුවන්ගේ උපවත්තන නම් සල්වනයේදී බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ නිරුපධිශේෂ පරිනිරිවාණයට පත් වූ සේක. එබැවින් කුසිනාරා පුරවැසි මල්ල රජවරු භාගයවතුන් වහන්සේගේ ශ්රී දේහය අලූත් වස්ත්රයකින් වෙලුහ. ඉන්පසු නෙලු පුළුන්වලින් වෙලුහ. නැවත අලූත් වස්ත්රයකින් වෙලා නෙලූ පුළුන් වලින් වෙලුහ. මෙසේ යුගල පන්සියයකින් භාග්යවතුන් වහන්සේගේ ශ්රී දේහය වෙළා යකඩ (අයසාව) තෙල් දෙණක බහා, යකඩ දෙණකින් වසා සියලූ වර්ගයේ දුවඳ දරින් චිතකයක් තනවා ශ්රී දේහය එහි තැන්පත් කළහ. අසිරිමත් පූජා පවත්වමින් දින සතක් ගත වූ පසු ශ්රී දේහයට ගිනි දැල්වීමට මල්ල රජදරුවන් උත්සුක වුවත් නොහැකි විය. පාවා නුවර සිට වැඩම කළ මහා කාශ්යප මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ දොහොත් නඟා තුන්වටක් චිතකය පැදකුණු කොට බුදුරදුන්ගේ සිරිපා වැන්දා හ. භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා පන්සිය නමක් ද එසේ පැකුණු කොට වැන්දා හ. ඒ සමඟම ඉබේම චිතකය ගිනි ඇවිලූණි. දැවෙන ගිතෙල් හෝ තල තෙල්වල යම් සේ අළු හෝ දැලි නොවන්නේ ද එසේ භාග්යවතුන් වහන්සේගේ ශ්රී දේහයේ උඩුහම හෝ සම හෝ නහර හෝ සද මිදුලූ හෝ දැවුණත් එහි අලූ හෝ දැලි නොවීය. එහෙත් ශාරීරික ධාතුන් වහන්සේ ඉතිරි වූහ. මල්ල රජදරුවෝ මෙම ධාතූන් වහන්සේලා සන්ථාගාර ශාලාවේ ආරකෂා සහිතව තැන්පත් කොට දින සතක්ම අසීමිත ගෞරවයෙන් පූජා සත්කාර කළහ.

ඉක්බිතිවැ අජාසත් රජ ද, ලිච්ජවී රජවරු දශාක්ය රජවරු ද, අල්ල කප්ප රටේ බූලි රජවරු ද, රාම ග්රමවාසි කෝලිය රජවරු ද, වේඨදිපක බ්රාහ්මණ ද, පාවා නුවර මල්ලරජදරුවෝ ද, එහි ගොස් කුසිනාරාව අවට සිට වෙන වෙනම ධාතු ඉල්ලා පණිවුඩ යැවූහ.

මල්ල රජවරු ධාතු නොදී zසටන් කරමුයි’ පිළිතුරු යැවූහ. මේ සෑම රජකෙනෙකුගේම පාහේම ගුරුවරයා වූ දෝණ නම් බමුණා මේ ධාතු කෝලහලයට මැදිහත් වී කරුණු කියා ඔවුන් සාමදානය කොට ධාතු අට කොටසකට ඛෙදා දුන්නේය. ධාතු ඛෙදූ රන් නැළිය ඔහු ගෙන ගියේය. ඉන් පසු පැමිණි පිප්පලී නගරවාසී මෞරිය රජවරු ආදාහණය කළ ස්ථානයෙන් අඟ=රු ගෙන ගියහ. මෙසේ ගෙන ගිය ධාතු ලාසය සහ අඟ=රු තැන්පත් කොට ඒ ඒ රාජ්යවල ස්ථූප දහයක් කළහ. සතර දළදාවන්ගෙන් එක් දළදාවක් තාවතිංසයෙහි ද එකක් ගන්ධාරයෙහිද එකක් කාලිංගයේ ද, අනෙක නා ලොව ද, සම සතළිස් ධාතූන් ද කේශ ධාතූන් ද ලොම ධාතූන් ද එක් එක් සක්වලක් පාසා දෙවිවරු රැගෙන ගිය බව මහා පරිනිබ්බාන සූත්රයේ සඳහන් වේ.

දීඝ නිකය අට්ඨකථාවේ සඳහන් පරිදි දොණ බමුණා රන් දෙණ විවෘත කොට ඒ ඒ රජවරුන්ට භාග්යවතුන් වහන්සේගේ ධාතූන් ප්රදර්ශනය කොට ඔවුන්ව නොපෙනෙන සේ දකුණු දළදාව ගෙන හිසේ වෙළුම අතරේ සඟවා ඇත. එය ඔහුට නොදැනෙන පරිදි ශක්රයා රැගෙන දෙව්ලොව සිළුමිණි සෑයෙහි (චූළාමණී චෛතියේ) තැන්පත් කොට ඇත.

තවද අටුවාව විවරණය කරන පරිදි චතස්සො දාඨා, ද්වෙ අක්ඛකා, උණ්හීසන්ති ඉමා සත්ත ධාතුයො න විප්පකිරිංසු සෙසා විප්පකිංසුති. තනථ සබ්බඛුද්දකා ධාතු සාසපබීජමත්තා අහොසි. මහාධාතු මජ්ෙ® භින්නතණ්ඩුලමත්තා. අතිමහතී මජ්කෙධ භින්න මුග්ගබීජමත්තාති” “සතර දළදා, දෙ අකුදා, නළල්පටිය යන මේ ධාතු සත නොවිසුරුණ හ. අනික් සියල්ල විසුරුණ හ. එහි ඉතා කුඩා ම ධාතු අබබීජ පමණ විය. මහා ධාතු කඩසහල් පමණ ඇත. ඉතා මහත්ධාතු මුංපියලි පමණ ය.”

මෙම සතර දළදා වහන්සේලාගෙන් එක් දළදා වහන්සේ නමක් පුණ්ය ජනාධාර ගන්ධාර දේශයට ගෙන ගොස් ගන්ධාර රජු විසින් සිංහාසනයෙහි තැන්පත් කොට පුදසත්කාර කරන ලද බව දළදා සිරිතෙහි සඳහන් ය. මෙම ගනධාර දේශය, වර්තමාන බටහිර පකිස්තානයට අයත් කන්දහර් නම් ප්‍රදේශයයි.

බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ දේහය දැවෙන චිතකයෙන් වම් දළදාව ඍද්ධියෙන් ලබා ගත් ඛේම රහතන් වහන්සේ එය කාලිංග දේශයේ දන්තපුරයේ බඹදත් නම් රජතුමාට ගෙන ගොස් දුන් බව දළදා සිරිත කියයි. අසීමිත භත්යාදරයෙන් පුදසත්කාර කරමින් සිටි බබදත් රජු පරලොව සැපත් වූ කල් හි ඔහුගේ පුත් කසී රජ රාජ්යයට පත් ව ඇත. ඔහු ද දළදා වහන්සේට අසීමිත භක්තියෙන් පුද සත්කාර කොට ඇත. මෙසේ රාජ පරපුරෙන් පරපුරට රැකගෙන එන පරමපූජනීය වම් දළදා වහන්සේ මහනුවර දළදා මාලිගාවේ තැන්පත් කොට තිබේ. එදා කාලිංග දේශය නමින් හැඳින් වූ මේ රාජ්යය අද “ඔරිස්සා” නමින් හැදින්වේ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍.

ලක්දිව මහසෙන් රජු රජ කරණ කාලයේ ඉන්දියාවේ කාලිංග පුරයේ රාජ්යය කළේ ගුහසීව රජය. මොහු මිත්යා දහම වැළඳ ගත් හෙයින් දන්ත ධාතූන් වහන්සේට කරණ පූජා සත්කාර නොකරණ ලදි. පසුව දන්ත ධාතූන් වහන්සේගේ ප්රාතිහාර්යයන් දැක නැවතත් බුදුදහම වැළඳ ගෙන පූජා සත්කාරයන් පැවැත් විය.

මෙයින් කිපුණු අන්යලබ්ධිකයෝ දඹදිව අගරජ කරන්නා වූ පාණ්ඩව රජු වෙත එළඹ, “කලිඟු රට තොප ඇතැවැසි ගුහසීව නම් රජෙක් තොප වැනි රජ දරුවන් වැඳ පුදන බ්රහ්ම, විෂ්ණු මහේෂ්වර යනා දී ලෝක ප්රසිද්ධ දෙවියන්ට නින්දා කොට මිනී ඇටය පුදන්නේ ය. කීවෝ යයි දළදා පූජාවලියේ සඳහන් ය. මෙයින් කෝපයට පත් පාණ්ඩව තම බෑණා වූ චිත්රයාණ නම් ප්රාදේශිය රජ සන්නාහ සන්නද්ධව යවා ‘මිනී ඇටය’ වහා ගෙණෙන ලෙස අණ කළේ ය. එහෙත් චිත්රයාණ රජු ද දන්ත ධාතූන් වහන්සේගේ ප්රාතිහාර්ය දැක සිටුරඟ සෙනඟ සමඟ බුදු දහම වැළඳ ගත්හ.

කෙසේ වුවත් පාණ්ඩව රජ දන්තපුරයෙන් පාටලී පුත්රයට දළදා වහන්සේ ගෙන්වා ගෙණ නිවටුන්ගේ අදහස් පරිදි හිංසා පීඩා නින්දා අපහාස කළේ ය. එහෙත් ප්රාතිහාර්යයන් දැක ඔහු ද බුදු දහම වැළඳ ගෙන නැවත කාලිංග රජුට ම බාර කළේ ය.

ගුහසීව රජතුමා ජීවිත පරිත්යාගයෙන් දන්ත ධාතූන් වහන්සේ ආරකෂා කළා පමණක් නොව තම අවෑමෙන් පසු එහි ආරකෂාව සඳහා ද දූරදර්ශී ක්රියා මාර්ගෙන ඇති බව ග්රනථගත ගෙන ඇති බව ග්රනථාගත තොරතුරුවලින් හෙළි වෙයි. තුණුරුවන් කෙරෙහි ප්රමුදිතව සිටි උජ්ජයිනී රාජ්යයේ රජුගේ පුන් දන්ත කුමරුට ගුහසීව රජ තම දියණිය වූ හේමමාලා කුමරිය සරණ පාවා දි දළදා ආරකෂක ධූරයට ද පත් කර ඇත. ගොඨාභය රජුගේ පුත් වූ මහසෙන් රජු කාලිංග ගුහසීව රජුන් මිත්රයෙකු වශයෙන් සිටි බවත්, මහසෙන් රජු දන්ත ධාතූන් වහන්සේ අප රටට වැඩම කරවා ගැණීම පිණිස උත්සාහ ගත් බව ඉතිහාස ගත තොරතුරුවලින් හෙළි වේ.

In the varaity Entertainment there was an item:a”viridu”

Viridu, like our folk tales, has come down from generation to generation . A viridu singer is talented person who make up his verse with the beat of his little circular drum, “rabana” as he sings. It is part of our culture. Even today we see the viridu singer in public places like the bus stand, railway station or market where people gather. The viridu is oerformed on occasions for entertainment.

The ‘viridu singer’ entertains the public in asimple way. The verse he composes is in sinple and colloquial language. He in a selects current incidents and events with universal interest such as love, sorrow, happiness, jealousy, bravery, treachery, betrayal, heroism. Often the narration includes dialogues. The repetition and regular rhyming patterns along with the rhythm make it interesting. When it is accompanied by music and dance, it attracts the listener. The singer uses a small ’rabana’ (tambourine) to produce the rhyming. A highly talented viridu singer is capable of entertaining the public with impromptu ‘viridu’ irrespective of time, place or person.

The English ‘balled’ is similar to our ‘viridu’. There are traditional ballads as well as literary ballads. However, in the modern society, the ballad singer or the viridu singer is fading from his original place, and becoming limited to the stage.

Then they discovered new methods to make their work easier , and to increase their comforts . trough the ages technology has helped people to build a more comfortable way of life . Industrial technology began with the invention of the steam engine . The work in factories became faster . The production increased . The working hours were reduced . The radio and television changed their entertainment habits. Technology helps people to live in greater comfort and security than in the fast Agriculture, medicine and transport technologies have brought many benefits to man . Today machines do must of the work. Powered machines have increased production and given people more leisure. The needs of the people began to increase. The result is the creation of a world of modern science and technology.
